The title “Views out of a Passing Train” intertwines two perspectives. Viewed from the outside, the train passes by; viewed from the inside, the landscape passes by. “Passing” actually refers to the external perspective of the moving train, but in the title it is transferred to the internal perspective of the viewers in the exhibition context, who are “looking out of the train.” This shift draws attention to the fictional nature of (digital) spaces and the passage of time.
Thus, a new spatiality emerges in which multiple levels are inextricably intertwined: the physical depth of the relief, the digital and analog space, and the time depicted in the longexposure, which flows from left to right. In addition, the traces of the 3D printing process are visible, subtly alluding to yet another temporal dimension. The horizontal movement thus remains visible, yet the motifs simultaneously enter physical space, creating a spatial simultaneity that hints at the complexity of digital spaces and processes. The work presents, in a format akin to painting, three objects that raise questions about depicted time and space, questions that deliberately remain unresolved.
